Christmas Wishlist 2016

This year for Christmas, there is really not a lot on my wishlist. Everyone is happy and healthy, and the one material thing I really wished for, a new computer, I invested in last month. However, when I was asked a few days ago for a bit of guidance concerning presents, I thought of a few things that by no means are must-haves, but would definitely be nice to have.

My picks fall firmly into two categories: home and beauty. As a tried and tested beauty lover, I can’t help but have my eye on a few new products and since I moved this past spring, there is always something I wish for to spruce up my home.

Christmas Wishlist 2016

Since I am an avid coffee drinker and it seems like the Nespresso capsules only contribute to a huge amount of waste, I am very interested in the Chemex brewing system after having tried it at a very hip and delicious Vancouver coffee spot.

And since I am just as much in love with cacti as the next person, a cute little Serax vase would help add some green to my home without subjecting a plant to my black thumb.

Finally, as far as homey things go, my love for PF Candle Co. has been well documented and the one scent that is high up on my list is Amber & Moss.

For beauty, I am dying to try a product from the Ouai line-up and the Clean Shampoo could be a good place to start for someone with fine hair like me.

Also, the RMS Beauty Unpowder seems like a lovely natural alternative to a conventional setting powder, which is something it might want to look into once warmer temperatures come around again.

Summer Beauty Wishlist 2016

My beauty related wishlist this season is a seriously mixed bag, ranging from skin to haircare to fragrance and colour cosmetics.

Summer Beauty Wislist 2016

First on my list is the Alterna Caviar Miracle Multiplying Volume Mist. With one of the longest names in the business, this is in a similar vein as my beloved Oribe Maximista, promising volume and hold for my limp locks. As I am steadily tearing through my second bottle of the Oribe, I am looking to shake it up a little bit and see how the Alterna spray performs.

Skincare wise, I am looking to replace the REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask with a new pick to see if anything lives up to it. The Herbivore Blue Tansy Mask not only looks gorgeous but has an amazing ingredients list that let’s me hope for even brighter, clearer skin.

As I am getting more and more into spray toners, the Pixi Hydrating Milky Mist has been calling my name. With hyaluronic acid as one of its main ingredients, this might just provide the extra boost of moisture and hydration that I am looking for in my already moisture-heavy skincare routine.

For colour, Urban Decay have made a huge splash with their release of 100 new lipstick shades (to be fair, there are a good few repromotes in there, but still…) and the colour Back Talk has been catching my eye especially. A pretty pinky mauve, this could make for a perfect everyday lip color. It has been sold out most places recently, but I am keeping my eyes peeled for this one.

And finally, I have been busy deepening my love for Byredo fragrances and have fallen in love with Mojave Ghost. Fresh and clean but with a twist, this could easily fit into my roster of everyday scents.

Home Wishlist 2016

… or ‘the lost blogpost of 2016’. I had this post all set up and prepared for yesterday, but somehow didn’t manage to get it up in time. So here you go, surprise weekend blogging!

Since I’ve moved this spring, there has been a lot of renovation, furniture shopping, and decorating going on and while I am beyond happy with how my place has turned out, there still are a few tweaks to be made in every part of my space. For the most part, my walls are pretty bare still and there’s a few decorative pieces that I have had my eyes on for a while now.

My style, I would say, is pretty minimal and basic. Clean lines, modern shapes, and neutral tones with a few quirks thrown in.

Home Wishlist 2016

I love the danish brand HAY and their clean and colorful designs, so I am hoping to vamp up my space with a few of their iconic trays and their geometric wall hooks. Another cool brand is House Doctor, also from Denmark, who incoporate simple shapes into cool designs. I’ve got my eye on one of their laundry baskets and the gorgeous stone and blush toned vase above. The mesh pinboard is also from House Doctor and will hopefully find its way onto my kitchen wall very soon.

Finally, I’m looking into doing a bit of DIY and creating a pom pom garland for my living room in lieu of a statement piece of art above my television.

Summer Style Wishlist 2016

Summer Style Wishlist 2016

Since summer has finally returned (and with a vengeance), I’ve been thinking about a few ways to update my wardrobe for this season.

Band shirts are always a staple in my closet, so the David Bowie Shirt really was a no-brainer. I picked this up recently but unfortunately, I was way too big- I’m considering ordering a smaller size so I can sport my love for Bowie in the future.

I’ve also been on the lookout for a nice pair of small, simple hoop earrings that just hug the earlobe perfectly. It’s hard finding the perfect sizing as they’re either too small or way too big, plus I want to buy them in a better metal so that I don’t end up with green ears.

I have shocked myself in considering getting a pair of dungarees. I haven’t taken the plunge yet for fear that I look like an overgrown toddler and I still don’t know if a short or long pair would look less ridiculous. If you have any advice on how to style these, I would be very grateful.

And finally, I’ve already purchased a pair of black Vans Hi-Tops and I could not be happier with them. Their easy to pair with any outfit, be it shorts, dresses or skinny jeans and I feel like they’re going to be a staple in my shoe collection for years to come. I remember owning a similar pair during my teenage years and they just take me back to being a punk-loving, all black-wearing emo kid.

Spring Beauty Wishlist 2016

With the beginning of a new season, there always seems to be an itch to shake things up a little and change around routines.

For a beauty addict like me, this of course means yearning after a few new goodies that I have corralled in a handy little list right here.

Spring Beauty 2016

I usually favor lips over eyes, but two there are two products that have made me reconsider:

The Laura Mercier Eye Colour in African Violet is a gorgeous duochrome purple to gold that I think would look great with my hazel eyes as violets tend to bring out the green hues. While I tend to go for neutrals more often, this would be a nice deviation from the usual browns and bronzes.

Speaking of neutrals, the Becca Ombre Rouge Palette is the stuff of dreams for any neutral eye lover. With five beautiful nude shades, this would be a perfect everyday palette and definitely something I would get a lot of use out of. I have swatched these shadows before and they feel buttery soft on the skin, so I can’t wait to get my hands on them as soon as possible.

For lips, the Dior Lip Glow Pencil looks like it will provide the perfect boost of brightening pink to the lips that just screams spring to me. A subtle was of color, this could be a wonderful everyday option and the pencil form might just make it the long-wearing basic I have been looking for.

I have to confess, I am yet to try the intensely hyped Beauty Blender. While I have used drugstore dupes before, I am still waiting to get my hands on the real deal and I don’t think it will be much longer until I have to give in and pick one up.

And finally, I have absolutely fallen in love with the unique scents by Commodity, especially the herby, woody Moss and the clean and fresh Rain. I have already used up a rollerball version of the former and while I am not ready to spring for the full sizes, I will definitely have to stock up on the smaller versions of both.

High-End Beauty Wishlist

Seeing as the holidays are coming up fast, I thought it was only fitting to do another wish list. This one is strictly high-end and albeit small, it is filled with a few goodies I cannot wait to get my hands on.

High End Beauty Wishlist 2015

The Kiehl’s Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate has been high on my list ever since I tried it out on the back of my hand and felt just how hydrating and smoothing this serum really is. I think this would be the perfection companion for the colder months as it adds an extra layer of hydration without any fuss.

Another trip to the Charlotte Tilbury counter seems inevitable and I’ve got my eyes on the beautiful Dolce Vita Eyeshadow Quad. This warm-toned set is just gorgeous and the chunky gold glitter makes it an absolute must for the festive season. I’ve swatched these shadows before and they are super soft and pigmented, so I think they’re well worth the investment.

Finally, I’ve spotted this limited edition travel set from Becca called Glow on the Go. It contains a smaller size of the Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed and the Spotlight Wand, both in the shade Opal. I’m always up for a glow-inducing, full-on highlight, and this set delivers just that in both powder and liquid form.

My Current Hair Wishlist

A few weeks ago, I made an appointment at the hairdresser’s, convinced that I would have them cut of just a few inches of my dry, bleached ends to refresh my look. When I sat in the chair however, I decided to go for something more radical and have them chop my mid-length locks into a shoulder-grazing, slightly angled bob.

I haven’t had hair this short since high school and while styling it is a whole different game now, I am so happy I went for it.

With my new haircut, I’ve been looking for some new styling products to try out a few different looks and have some fun with it.

Hair Wishlist 2015

I’ve been lusting after the Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray forever since it only ever gets rave reviews online. I think this would give me the cool, tousled texture that would really flatter my new cut. Combined with some volumizing properties, this spray might just be what my styling routine needs.

My recent appointment was at an Aveda Salon, so they used some of their lush products on my hair, which was a dream come true. In order to take out the brassiness out of my highlighted ends, the stylist used the Aveda Blue Malva Color Conditioner to tone my hair and make it look more ashy again. Since it made such a different with only one use, I am tempted to pick this up again to keep the pretty cool tone to my new locks.

While my blowdrying time has virtually been cut in half now, washing, drying and styling my hair are still some of the most dreaded tasks in my routine. I try to wash my hair as little as possible to keep it healthy, so I rely heavily on dry shampoo. I’ve heard so many good things about the R+Co line and their products look amazing, so I think the Death Valley Dry Shampoo might be a good introduction to the brand.

Speaking of keeping my hair in good condition, I desperately want to give the Bumble & Bumble Surf Infusion a shot. Unlike their classic Surf Spray, this is formulated with oils to keep the hair soft and shiny instead of crunchy. In theory this sounds amazing, and even though I am slightly afraid that it might be to heavy for my fine hair, I might pick up a travel size of this and give it a try.
