Alterna Volume Travel Trio

If there’s one thing I can’t pass up, it’s a good beauty deal. And if it comes with cute travel sizes and a free little bag, I am game.

This is exactly why I absolutely needed to get my hands on the Alterna Volume Travel Trio. It comes with the Shampoo and Conditioner from the Caviar Anti-Aging Bodybuilding Volume range and a trial size of the Miracle Multiplying Volume Mist, which is a product I had wanted to try for ages.

While the shampoo and conditioner went straight into my travel beauty stash, I used the Volume Mist the very next time I washed my hair.

Since my hair is very fine and limp, I do love a good volumizing spray and this Alterna version has definitely come out on top of the list. Lately, my hair has been very soft and slippery, which, while speaking for good hair health, makes it impossible to style as it slips out of hairbands, clips, you name it.

What this spray provided besides a good amount of volume is a certain amount of hold and grip that I so appreciate when styling my hair. While it still feels soft, it keeps its shape and volume for a good while longer now and looks a bit fuller.

The verdict? As soon as this dinky trial size runs out, I am going to pick up a full size of the Volume Mist, especially since my Oribe Maximista is on its last leg as well. This spray might not be cheap, but it is much easier to come by and provides amazing results immediately.

Sample Extravaganza

While I do love a good brick-and mortar shopping experience, I am always appreciative of being able to pick out a few choice samples before checking out as a little treat to myself.

I do try to weed out the duds as soon as I get my samples in, but there are always the few that are supremely above the cut and that I can’t wait to try out.

After my recent trip to Aesop, I went home with a handful of samples that could make up a beautiful skincare routine if they work for my skin. From the Fabulous Face Cleanser to the B & Tea Balancing Toner and the brand new Lucent Facial Concentrate, the sales assistant geared the little sachets towards what I had told her about my skin beforehand. I have tried out the Lucent Serum on my hand and it felt lush, so I am happy to be able to give it a try before springing for the expensive full size.

Speaking of high priced products, the Chantecaille Just Skin Tinted Moisturizer must be the most luxe offering in its category but it is also on top price-wise. While the shade I got might not be perfect for me, I am excited to try out the formula and texture in order to make up my own mind.

Since I recently also ran out of primer, it is the perfect time to give the Pixi Flawless & Poreless a little try. Pixi have been rocking my socks lately anyway, so this might be a winner too.

Finally, two products that might be saving my winter skin are the VMV Hypoallergenics Red Better Flare-Up Balm, an all-purpose salve for chapped and inflamed skin, and a generous travel-size of the REN Vita Mineral Daily Supplement Moisturising Cream.

Bookshelf #13: A Book Lovers’ Dream

Today, I am spending the day at the Frankfurt Book Fair, the biggest literature and publishing fair in the world. I am so ready to be inspired and introduced to lots of new works from authors all over the world.

I will let you know about anything that stood out to me and that I am excited to read in the next Bookshelf.

See you soon!

The past few weeks have revolved around three things for me. Firstly, I have been trying to fit in as much work as possible, with a few important deadlines looming in the near future.

Tying into that, my time in Canada is coming to a close very soon. It’s a mere three weeks before I pack my backs and make my way back home. I am kind of shocked that it has come so quickly, but above all, I am excited to see my family and friends again in person. Skype, texts, and Facetime have been a great substitute, but really, there’s nothing better than a hug and a good catch up session over a glass of wine.

Finally, and probably most excitingly, I have been to San Francisco in the beginning of March and while the weather couldn’t have been worse (storm warnings and torrential downpours instead of perennial California sunshine), I had a wonderful time.

Seeing the Golden Gate Bridge shrouded in fog made for some pretty unique and moody pictures. Also, I officially made my first YouTuber encounter when I visited Chelsea in her shop Anomie. She is every bit as lovely as in her videos and the store is gorgeous and wonderfully curated, so if you ever find yourself in San Francisco, make sure to take the time and check it out.
