There are always those lotions and potions that turn up in your cabinet without anyone really knowing how they got there. Case in point – the Weleda Skinfood Cream.
With a lovely, strong herbal fragrance, this super thick and rich all-purpose cream is the epitome of a natural beauty product. While it is much too heavy to use on my face, it is a lovely product for any intensely dry patches from my feet to my arms, where I suffer from keratosis pilaris. By putting the cream on those rough areas, it creates almost a barrier that protects the skin and helps it heal more quickly.
I also use the Skinfood as an overnight hand cream and it has worked wonders on my dry, patchy hands that have suffered from the cold winter air and constant washing. Considering its extremely rich consistency, it is surprising how fast this sinks into the skin, leaving it moisturized and with a soft sheen.
I wouldn’t want to be missing this cream as it truly is an all-rounder for me.
Just a quick hello today as I am busy celebrating my birthday! It is absolutely great to be spending the day back home with my lovely family, so I won’t babble on for much longer and wish you a wonderful day as well!
Since my hair is very fine, I tend to keep the styling products to a minimum in order to not weigh my hair down any further.
Having been color treated though, my hair does benefit from a bit of moisture, so I have taken to lightweight pre-blow dry styling creams in order to provide hydration and tame frizz.
My latest product of choice for this category is the Bumble and Bumble All-Style Blow Dry, which is targeted towards most hair types, but especially fine and oily hair.
While it sounds counterintuitive to put a cream on fine, oily hair, this one actually helps to prolong my blow dry and give me a bit more control over my hair.
After towel drying, is disperse a chickpea-sized amount throughout my hair, even closer to the scalp. The only other thing I use before blow drying it is a volumizing spray, and this is essential for me as the cream does not provide any volume on its own. Together, though, they make for a wonderful cocktail that leaves my hair looking fuller and healthier. Since I have been using the All-Style, I truly think that my hair does not get greasy as quickly, giving me about a day longer than usual until I really have to wash it again.
For me, this is what makes this product that slight bit better than the Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Styling Treatment and most definitely something that I will repurchase in the full size.
Considering my deep seated love for matte lips, it is quite surprising that I had never tried a lip primer until a few months ago.
After a visit to a MAC Pro store, where the lovely make-up artist applied the MAC Prep + Prime Lip under a liquid lipstick, I was converted. My lips felt plumped and hydrated and the lipstick itself didn’t fade for hours.
The primer comes in a convenient slim tube with the quintessential subtle vanilla scent of MAC lip products. Looking like a regular lip balm, it also doesn’t disperse any color onto the lips, just a very subtle sheen that does not interfere with the finish of the lipstick at all.
Until I have tried it, I would have dismissed a lip primer as a total waste of money, but this one has me convinced that it is an absolute necessity if lipstick is a staple in your routine. However, I do feel that a matte balm like the Nuxe Reve de Miel (in the pot!) provides a similarly good base for lips, so if you are looking for a slightly more affordable option, you might want to give that a go.
On a day to day basis, I am not one for heavy foundations, so I usually prefer to go with a tinted moisturizer of some sort in order to even out my skin tone and (preferably) provide some SPF as well.
A while ago, the bareminerals Complexion Rescue caught my eye as it is marketed as a hydrating gel cream, which sounds right up my alley. I picked up the second lightest shade, Vanilla, a great match for my post-winter pale skin.
The formula is a lovely, almost moussey consistency that spreads out easily on the face and provides light coverage with a glowy finish. If you are looking for a natural, skin-like base, this is probably it.
It does suggest to apply it with fingers, but I actually prefer to use a brush as it makes for a super-quick and even application. With a few dabs of concealer on top, my face is pretty much sorted for day.
The staying power is good as well, but I have to say, my skin is quite dry at the moment so nothing really slides or fades off my face too much. What I like best, however, is that the hydrated, comfortable feeling actually stays around all day, so this tinted moisturizer actually feels much more like a skincare product than any others I have tried.
I am glad I gave into the hype with this one and I think it will see me through the rest of the year quite nicely as I do love a glowy face in the summer as well and with an SPF of 30, my sun protection will be taken care of as well.
You guys, this is (thankfully) my last travel update for a while as I am on my way home right now. After a wonderful time in Canada, I am happy to be back with my loved ones soon and resume regularly scheduled programming asap.
So, for now, it is goodbye to Canada and thank you for having me!
On a recent trip to Sephora, I was intrigued by what was marketed as a healthy alternative to aluminum-laden offerings, the Lavanila Healthy Deodorant.
While I definitely need the full throttle aluminum-heavy, pore-clogging antiperspirants in the summertime, I thought that it might be a good idea to go a little lighter and ‘cleaner’ during these colder months when perspiration control is not as important as during the hotter times of the year.
I was weary however, since I am not a huge fan of vanilla scents. Often, I find them to sweet and cloying with a potential to induce headaches or even migraines. So I decided to go with what seemed the most light version – Fresh Vanilla Lemon.
I am happy to report that this actually does not smell like Vanilla at all (and even the straight up Vanilla scent is a very fresh take on the sweet fragrance), but rather a somewhat spicy citrus scent that’s nice and refreshing.
In terms of anti-perspiratory action, I didn’t expect too much from this and I definitely wouldn’t rely on this for a workout or hot summers day, but the scent is nice and long-lasting and does provide some odor control.
For me, this is a deodorant for lazy or colder days for sure, but it it nice to know that there’s an alternative to the more heavy-duty deodorants in my cabinet that I can pull out on those laid back days.
